Hyun Bin, the amazing actor’s slowly stepped up the ladder and is known for his thousand faces! (Showbiz extra_ Arirang)

He’s cold like ice sometimes, and soft like the froth from a warm cup of Cappuccino at other times. It’s actor Hyun Bin (현빈), who’s known for his thousand faces. He’s slowly stepped up the ladder and became Korea’s top-notch actor, so learn more about his past, present, and future on today’s All That Star!

Hyun Bin debuted in 2003 through the drama ‘Bodyguard.’ He played a supporting role as a stalker, but it was his first step on the path of an actor. Since then, he made the name Hyun Bin known to everyone through the sitcom ‘NonStop 4.’ He appeared as a righteous and serious college student, and received a lot of interest from the viewers.

Hyun Bin started working on big screen productions as well. His first movie was ‘Spin Kick,’ which had Shinhwa’s Kim Dong-wan as the main character. This movie portrayed a bully, who gives a shot at the national Taekwando competition, but it didn’t do so well in theaters. But, an opportunity came by for him to play a leading role. It was the role as a bodyguard named ‘Kang-guk’ in the drama ‘Island’ starring Lee Na-young and Kim Min-jung. He soared to the top, thanks to the attractive role and his excellent acting skills. He received the rookie actor award that year, and started his journey on becoming Korea’s top actor.

We think that opportunities do come to hard-working people. A ticket to the top was presented to Hyun Bin through the drama ‘My Lovely Samsoon’. He became the ideal guy for all ladies by playing ‘Hyun Jin-hun’, a restaurant owner in this drama. This production became the national drama, and came to an end with high viewers’ ratings. He received the best actor award that year, and joined the league of top-notch celebrities.

Since then, Hyun Bin played a son of a plutocratic family in the movie ‘A Millionaire’s First Love.’ He acted with Lee Yeon-hee and the two showed the ups and downs of first love. In his next production, he underwent a total character transformation. He shed off his aristocratic image which he showed in the drama ‘Snow Queen,’ and transformed into the tough and rough boxer ‘Han Tae-woong’. In the drama ‘Worlds Within,’ in which he worked on with actress Song Hye-kyo, he acted as ‘Jung Ji-oh’ , a producer. This drama realistically portrayed a broadcasting station, and through this production, the two actors became a real couple.

For his next production, Hyun Bin chose the drama ‘Friend, Our Story,’ which is a remake of the movie ‘Friend.’ However, this drama did not meet the viewers’ expectations, and did not receive high viewers ratings. He acted as a megalomaniac patient admitted in a mental hospital in the movie ‘I Am Happy.’ In this movie, he worked with actress Lee Bo-young, who portrayed a nurse, with whom, Hyun Bin fell in love with. Unfortunately, this movie did not receive a lot of love, due to its gloomy development.

He got to meet another miraculous production in 2010! It was 2010’s hit drama ‘Secret Garden,’ which caused the ‘Joo-won heart-ache.’ This mind-shattering production dealt with the theme where the souls of the leading male and female characters were switched. Due to the fame of this drama, it even caued the ‘Secret Garden Syndrome.’ On top of it all, Hyun Bin (현빈) was in the spotlight for singing the drama’s soundtrack ‘The Other Man.’ This drama earned him the best actor awards at the acting awards ceremony in that same year.

In addition to the fame of ‘Secret Garden,’ his movie ‘Come Rain, Come Shine’ also received a lot of love. Hyun Bin (현빈) attended his first ever Berlin Film Festival, thanks to this movie. He worked with world-famous actress Tang Wei in the movie ‘Late Autumn.’ The casting of two top-notch actors made everyone show high expectations for this movie. Thanks to this sky-rocketing fame, Hyun Bin (현빈) became the jackpot of the commercial industry. He worked on a jam-packed schedule as a model for various products. He captivated all the ladies with his confident look and soft smile.

He left the entertainment industry right at the peak of his fame and enlisted in the Marine Corps. Some 2,000 Korean and foreign fans gathered to see Hyun Bin (현빈) off, and over 200 press-related personnel, proving his popularity. Hyun Bin (현빈) showed his manly qualities to his fans, and started off his military service. He will spend the next 21 months in the Marine Corps, and will be discharged on December 6th, 2012. We hope he stays healthy, and look forward to seeing this true actor greet us soon on either the big or small screen.

Hyun Bin voted as conscription role model

Posted Image

A popular TV actor who enlisted in the Marine Corps for his conscription has been voted as the defining symbol of military mandatory service by netizens, the military recruitment agency said on Thursday.

According to the Military Manpower Administration, actor Hyun Bin who is serving on the frontlines was voted as the role model of the official military service through an online poll.

The 29-year-old actor serving in the 6th Marine Brigade on Baengnyeong Island near the northwestern maritime border with North Korea received the most votes out of 351 men suggested by the public, which included actors Cho In-sung, Cha In-pyo and singer Lee Jung.

Of the 351 men, 299 were celebrities. There were no political or social leaders among the suggestions. According to the MMA, common cases among the remaining 52 civilians were those who had received exemption from the military service because of medical problems but chose to serve regardless.

Hyun had been accepted to join the Marines in January.

He gained tremendous popularity with his role in the SBS weekend drama “Secret Garden” and built up an enormous fan base both nationwide and overseas. Two recently released movies in which Hyun starred, “Late Autumn” and “Come Rain, Come Shine” also received attention.

Hyun’s case is in sharp contrast to a host of actors who have been charged with draft-dodging.

The ruling Grand National Party lawmaker Jeon Yeo-ok once called the actor’s decision to join the Marines an act of “noblesse oblige,” and hoped it would be a chance to change young South Koreans’ perception of the mandatory military duty.

In Korea, all able-bodied men are required to serve in the military for about two years.

Hyun Bin’s Life as a Marine Recorded in Book (Pics)

A book called “I Am a Marine” about the barracks life of heartthrob Hyun Bin, whose real name is Kim Tae-pyeong, will be released by Planet Media on Aug. 8. The book features his experience as a marine from the time when he enlisted until almost the present day.

As part of the project organized by the Marine Corps, a professional ghostwriter interviewed the man dubbed “Korea’s Elvis” by The Economist and took a firsthand look at his life at boot camp and in a marine unit on Baeknyeong Island. In the three-part book, the first part deals with his daily training routines, while part two introduces Hyun’s life as a marine, based on interviews with him and other members of his unit after they are deployed on the island. Part three takes a critical look at what it is like to serve as a soldier in Korea, with the at-times pressure-cooker culture highlighted by a recent shooting spree at another marine unit. The book features about 300 photographs showing the marines in training and at rest in the barracks. About 50 feature Hyun in various poses, many of them heroic, such as him straining to carry a rubber boat over his head with his comrades, and him rappelling from a helicopter. When asked which of his two names, Hyun Bin or Kim Tae-pyeong, sounded more natural, the movie star and rock and roll crooner replied, “I’ve gotten most used to being called No. 2101,” referring to his recruit serial number.

But after the six-week boot camp training ended, he was more upbeat.

“I’ve really learned many things, such as how to stay patient, how to increase my physical strength, how to find ways to relax and build a better sense of camaraderie,” he said. “But the biggest boon was that I got my real name back.”

Some stories of Hyun Bin in Marines

Cư dân mạng thích thú với những tiết lộ thú vị về Hyun Bin trong quân ngũ

Recently, online netizens have spread some interesting stories about HB’s life in Marines revealed by friends who have lived with him.

They said that other younger soldiers have talked a lot with him. But due to different living manner, it’s hard for them to find a topic to talk. Seems like talking with him is like talking with someone who has lived a long time in foreign country. Asking him about school, he didn’t know much. Or about game, or even woman, he didn’t know much, too.

Friends who live with Hyun Bin told that while they were watching TV, when the TV showed the CF of Samsung Smart TV, Tang Wei said “Don’t know what HB is doing now?”, when hearing this question, one of HB’s boss in Marines said “What is he doing huh? He spent all of his day with me today!!!”, make HB laugh so much.

They said that Hyun Bin is a person who is really cared about his fans. He usually uses his free time to get access to his DC gallery, and feeling really happy and excited with the love that fans give to him. All of the fans’ letters sent to him, Hyun Bin read all and never miss even one. However because there are so many letters, after reading them he didn’t know where to put it because his wardrobe is full of his fans’ letters, so he must send all to his house.

Other younger soldiers also told there were sometimes they saw HB went out to wash his hand but in fact, he was eating his Chocopie cake sneakily.

After reading these stories, netizens show their extremely exciting attitude and post some messages “So excited, Hyun Bin really has these sides” “Having hard practice but he still found his time to read fans’ letters, so touching!”, “It’s good to have news about HB”.

HB joined Marines in this March. Currently he is in Baekryung island.
